What to eat after blood loss?
Immediately after blood loss:
* Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, soup, or broth. This will help to replenish the fluids that were lost during blood loss.
* Eat small, frequent meals. This will help to avoid putting too much stress on the digestive system.
* Choose foods that are easy to digest, such as cooked fruits and vegetables, yogurt, and lean protein.
* Avoid foods that are high in fiber, such as raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.
* Avoid foods that are high in fat, such as fried foods, fatty meats, and dairy products.
* Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
In the days and weeks following blood loss:
* Continue to drink plenty of fluids.
* Continue to eat small, frequent meals.
* Choose foods that are rich in iron, such as red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, lentils, spinach, and kale.
* Take an iron supplement if recommended by your doctor.
* Avoid foods that can interfere with iron absorption, such as coffee, tea, and calcium-rich foods.
If you have any concerns about what to eat after blood loss, talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian.
