How to Get Rid of a Gut Fast

Almost every day the fitness media bombards us with headlines such as ''Lose your stomach in Five Days'' or ''One Week to Perfect Abs." Regardless of the advertising spin, losing stomach fat is one of the most difficult and challenging things to do, particularly if you have a full-time job and are already struggling to make time in your day for your family and deal with daily tasks. If you really want to lose the fat fast, you're going to have to show discipline and determination. It's not impossible, but it takes hard work.

Monitor how many calories you're consuming versus how many you're burning. The simple fact about weight loss is that to lose stomach fat you have to burn more calories -- defined as a unit of energy -- than you take in. You don't have to walk around with a calorie counter to get the balance right, but there are some changes you can make immediately that should have an effect on your calorie intake. These include eating less snack foods, drinking less alcohol and getting active by joining a gym or running club.

Eat more meals -- up to six a day -- but in much smaller portions than you'd eat during dinner. This controls your insulin levels, which is crucial because insulin stops stored fat being used as energy if it thinks the body is starving.

Eating regularly tricks the insulin into believing that there's no reason to panic. As a result, more fat will be burned. Eating throughout the day also ensures you aren't ravenous by dinner, and will therefore avoid overeating. However, ensure the six meals are healthy and incorporate carbohydrates, proteins and unsaturated fats.

Exercise cleverly by performing shorter, high-intensity cardiovascular exercises combined with light weight training. This contributes to a leaner physique and boosts your metabolic rate, which means that because your body continues to build muscle after your session, you'll burn calories even when you're relaxing.

Get into the habit of going to the gym at least once a day. You won't always feel as if you've achieved something, but it's one way of getting yourself into a healthy frame of mind.

Change your environment if it isn't conducive to a healthy diet. In many cases it's too easy to reach for a beer in the fridge or open a packet of chips at work. If you don't stock up with beers or bring chips with your lunch to the office, you'll have less temptation and create a healthier eating environment.
