How to Calculate WW Points

Weight Watchers is a popular weight loss program that assigns each food item a points value. You get a daily amount of points to use, depending on your current weight, height, activity level and gender. How you use those points is up to you --- you can vary your foods until you eat the maximum amount you're allowed. Calculate WW points by looking at the calories, fat grams and dietary fiber of food per serving.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the nutrition label on the side or back of the food package. Identify the fat grams, calories and dietary fiber per serving.

    • 2

Take the number of calories. Divide it by 50. Divide the fat grams by 12. Add the two together to get the value of "x". For instance, if the food has 250 calories, divide by 50 to get 5. If it has 5 grams of fat, divide by 12 to get 0.42. Add 0.42 to 5 to get 5.42.

    • 3

Divide the dietary fiber grams by 5 to get the value of "y". Subtract "y" from "x". This equals the Weight Watchers points value for the given food. If the number has a decimal, round down if it is below .5 and round it up if it is above .5. Suppose there are 5 grams of dietary fiber, divide by 5 to get one. Subtract this from 5.42 to get 4.42, which you round down to get 4 points.

Use a Weight Watchers points calculator or slide if you'd rather not calculate the points on your own. Enter the amount of fat, calories and fiber and you will get the points value.
