How to Clean Baby Ear Wax

Ear wax needs removing to prevent buildup. Called cerumen, wax forms to protect the ears from dirt and foreign debris, but it can be bothersome and visible when too much forms. To remove a baby's ear wax, use caution to avoid damaging the ear. While you must clean buildup, don't remove all the wax so that the baby's ears remain protected.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect the baby's ears for wax buildup. Target the areas to remove excess wax.

    • 2

Rub the outside of the ear with a warm and damp washcloth. Rub around the ear canal gently to remove any visible wax. If you cannot remove the ear wax with this method, then use hydrogen peroxide.

    • 3

Soak the end of a cotton swab with hydrogen peroxide. After you bathe your baby, rub the outside of the ear with the cotton swab to remove the excess ear wax. Focus on removing the wax located on the visible outside area of the ear canal. Avoid pushing the cotton swab inside the ear.
