How do I Give Newborns Fennel Tea?

If your bundle of joy cries for hours on end, spits up often and appears to have gastrointestinal distress, he may have colic. While colic typically goes away by the time your baby is 4 months old, many parents find they cannot wait that long for relief. There is no medically approved drug treatment for colic, however, some fussy newborns may find fennel tea soothing.

Instructions

    • 1

Check with your child's pediatrician before trying any alternative remedies. Ask the doctor if fennel tea may interact with any medical conditions your child has, or any medications he is taking.

    • 2

Steep a fennel seed tea bag in a cup of hot water for about five minutes, then remove the tea bag and discard. Only use tea bags that do not have caffeine and other added ingredients.

    • 3

Wait for the tea to cool to a lukewarm temperature.

    • 4

Offer your baby 1 tsp. of fennel tea immediately before and after you feed her.

    • 5

Drink three to six cups of fennel tea daily if you breastfeed your baby, instead of giving the tea to him directly.
