There are a number of methods to ease acid reflux in infants and babies. Herbalist Andrea Candee suggests giving your ill baby tea. Chamomile, fennel seed, and lemon balm tea are all helpful in easing stomach discomfort. These herbs are classified as antispasmodics and carminatives. Antispasmodics are herbs that relieve abdominal and intestinal cramping. Carminatives are herbs that help rid the digestive tract of gas.
To administer tea to an infant, clinical herbalist and mother, Susan Perri says to use an eyedropper. The tea should be given to the baby before each feeding in a dosage of one teaspoon of tea to one teaspoon of water. The solution should be heated to the same temperature as the child’s breast milk or formula. This method can be used not only as a remedy, but also as a preventative method. Perri also recommends that nursing mothers drink these teas as well because the benefits will be transferred to your infant through the milk that you produce.
