How to Tell If a Baby Has a Stomach Virus
Instructions
-
-
1
Check to see if the baby has diarrhea or watery stools, or has vomited.
-
2
Take the baby's temperature. Contact the doctor if it is over 100.4 degrees Farenheit (38 degrees Celsius).
-
3
Assess the infant's behavior. Excessive crying or fretfulness, lack of energy, or lack of appetite can indicate stomach problems. Additionally, if the baby frequently pulls his or her legs up to their stomach and cries, it can indicate that the baby is experiencing stomach pain.
-
4
Evaluate the baby's level of hydration. If you suspect a stomach virus and the infant has had no wet diapers for more than five hours or cries without producing tears, contact your doctor immediately. Dehydration in babies can be very serious and must be treated properly right away.
