Breastfeed frequently. A baby who has problems eating may find breast milk easier to digest than similar foods. You can help increase your supply of milk by drinking more water and feeding the baby more frequently. Avoid foods that may give the baby gas such as broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables.

Start on cereals. Babies as young as a year old can help increase their birth weight with the addition of cereals to their diets. A good choice are cereals that are easy to digest. Start off with rice cereal at least once a week to see how well the baby likes to eat it. Try other cereals at regular intervals.

Try feeding smaller meals more often. Instead of feeding the baby three times a day try feeding the one year old child once an hour when the child is awake. Give small foods that the child can eat with their fingers such as cut up carrots and mashed peas. Experiment with various tastes to see what your child likes.
