Natural Cures for a Baby With a Dry Cough After the Flu

When it comes to coughing and babies, the most delicate of treatments must be used. You do not want to be giving your baby chemical filled pharmacological products, so finding a natural remedy seems like the most obvious answer to your baby's congestion and cough.
  1. Steam Baths

    • A natural way to cure a dry cough that your baby may be suffering through is a steam bath. The steam that the hot water gives off will help rehydrate the air passages that have become dry and soar in your baby. Draw a warm bath and allow your baby to soak in the warm water for about 10 minutes. Your baby will breathe in the steam and it will clear her system. You can make the bath even more effective by adding in some bath salts, eucalyptus or thyme oil.

    Herbal Tea

    • Herbal tea is also another great remedy for a cough, even for a baby. Licorice, black, chamomile, sage and thyme tea are all great choices. The antibacterial qualities that the teas give off are perfect for treating dry coughs. The bacteria that are causing the cough need to be attacked, but the throat also needs to be hydrated. This is why tea is so great at treating coughs. Do not make the water too hot, but warm enough to properly release the healing enzymes found within the tea. You can add a splash of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey for the tea to be even more effective.

    Herbal Rub

    • An herbal rub can also be very effective in treating a baby's bad cough. To prepare, mix a few tablespoons of olive oil with two drops of eucalyptus, sage, rosemary or peppermint oil. Softly massage the oil mixture into the baby's chest and back. Put a shirt back onto the baby to help warm up the mixture to be released. As your baby breathes in the oils, the cough will melt away.
