How to Use Nutramigen

Nutramigen is a special type of formula offered by Enfamil, a manufacturer of baby feeding products. Nutramigen was first developed in 1942 as a way to help babies that were considered colicky. If your doctor recommends Nutramigen for your baby, you can use the hypoallergenic formula to help relieve gas and digestive issues. Not only is it recommended for colicky babies, a pediatrician may advise to use Nutramigen for a suspected milk and soy protein allergy.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the Nutramigen formula. Wash your hands and follow the instructions for bottle preparation on the Nutramigen label. For the ready-serve Nutramigen formula, simply open the container and pour the contents into a bottle. The concentrated powder requires that you mix water with the mixture.

    • 2

Warm the bottle if you plan to feed the baby immediately. You can use room temperature water to mix the formula or place the ready to serve bottle in a container of hot water to get the Nutramigen formula to the desired temperature. Test the temperature before you give it to the baby.

    • 3

Store the Nutramigen in the refrigerator until use for up to 24 hours in a closed container. If you serve the bottle right away, it can stay at room temperature for a maximum of two hours. Within an hour of feeding, the contents of the bottle should be thrown out.

    • 4

Follow the baby's normal feeding schedule when you use Nutramigen. Enfamil states of its website that you should see a reduction of colic symptoms within 48 hours of use.
