How to Ease Infant Coughing
There are a number of different factors that can cause your baby to cough, and no matter how many times it happens, it is always a bit scary. If the cough is extreme, or there are additional symptoms, the doctor may be the best choice. However, if the cough seems minor, try a few at-home remedies before you rush your child to the doctor.Things You'll Need

1
Put a humidifier in the baby's room. Children often get coughs from dry air in the house. This is especially true in the winter, when the heat is running all day. Choose a humidifier that doesn't require a filter. Filters may get moldy if they aren't changed often enough, and may project mold into your child's room.

Warm up fruit juice in a microwave. Warm up 8 oz. of juice in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir the juice and test it to ensure that it isn't too hot. Put the juice in a bottle and give it to your baby. This will often sooth a dry throat and break up any mucus.

Turn on a hot shower and bring your child into the bathroom with you. Don't put them in the shower, but allow them to breath in the steam in the room. This method works faster than a humidifier. The steam from the shower will break up mucus, soothe their dry throat and calm them down if you take a book or toy in with you.

Open the window of your baby's room. The cool, night air can often alleviate a cough. The night air has more moisture than the air in your home, and cooler air can soothe a sore throat.
