Stuffy Nose Remedies for Babies

Infants suffering from stuffy noses often find it hard to breathe, sleep, eat and communicate. Unlike older children and adults, infants can't tell you how they're feeling. Nasal congestion can be a trying experience for young children and babies. However, remedies are available, through items around the house, conventional medications and homeopathic alternatives.
  1. Household Remedies

    • One of the oldest and most common home remedies for infant nasal congestion is salt water. Warm water, salt and an eyedropper can loosen congestion in your baby's nose. Use the eye dropper to administer two small drops into the nasal cavity.

    Conventional Medicine

    • Little Noses Stuffy Nose Kit comes complete with an infant saline solution, as well as a nasal aspirator. Saline solution, similar to salt water, is a common over-the-counter remedy for infant nasal congestion.

    Environmental Remedies

    • Dry heat is a major culprit in infant nasal congestion. Turn on a warm shower, or use a humidifier to add moisture back into the air.

    Homeopathic Remedies

    • A well-known homeopathic remedy for an infant's stuffy nose is Dulcamara. Also known as bittersweet nightshade, Dulcamara is often used to treat congestion, as well as other symptoms associated with the common cold, including coughing and difficulty breathing.

    Topical Remedies

    • Several topical remedies are available for infants, including Respiractin Liquid, a combination of herbs used to treat congestion. In addition, there are more conventional rubs, such as Vicks VapoRub.
