How to Make Infant Formula

Breast milk is the ideal food for babies, but mothers who can't or don't choose to breast feed want to find the best substitute. Powdered formula contains most of the same nutrients as breast milk, but it often has many chemical additives and preservatives. Instead, you can make a homemade formula that has most of the same nutrients as breast milk and is easily digestible for small babies.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • Strainer
  • Cheesecloth to fit in the strainer

Instructions

    • 1

Put the yogurt into the cheesecloth and set the cheesecloth into the strainer. Strain it over a bowl for at least 3 hours. The liquid that comes out is whey, and you will need it for Step 4.

    • 2

Simmer the liver in the broth over very low heat until the meat is cooked through.

    • 3

Liquefy the mixture with a blender and set it aside to cool.

    • 4

Stir in the remaining ingredients once the liver has cooled.

    • 5

Store the formula in the refrigerator in a sterilized glass container.
