Head lice is a condition in which the scalp is infested with tiny bugs known as lice or mites. Mites are quite visible, especially to those who are experienced with them and have seen them in the past. While it is possible for anyone to end up with a lice infestation, the problem is most common among children, and may even be cause for taking them out of school temporarily. Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of disposable gloves. Grab a fairly large amount of Vaseline or other petroleum jelly and slowly work it into your child's hair. Massage the petroleum jelly into the scalp for approximately five minutes, ensuring that it covers the entire head. Place a hair cap on the child's head to ensure that the petroleum jelly stays in place and does not get onto furniture. Leave the cap on overnight.

    • 2

Remove the cap in the morning. Apply a small amount of peanut butter to the child's scalp, which will help to free both the petroleum jelly and the lice. This process will not only remove the majority of the lice from the child's head, but will assist in suffocating the remaining lice, making them easier to remove on the next application.

    • 3

Rub a small amount of flour into the child's scalp, which will help the remaining petroleum jelly and peanut butter to congeal. Wash the hair thoroughly with shampoo.

    • 4

Repeat Steps 1-3 until all signs of lice have disappeared. You may need to repeat the wash up to six times before the problem is fully eradicated.
