How to Remove Red Lice

Lice are wingless parasitic insects that feed on small amounts of blood and live in human hair. While lice aren't dangerous and don't cause disease, they can be a pain to deal with. Lice can be brown, yellow, gray or red, and tend to infest school-age children more than older adults, but anyone can get them. Getting rid of lice can be a long process, but you can completely eliminate them with the right treatment.

Be aware that this is a long process. Lice themselves aren't very hard to get rid of, but you may find that their eggs are hard to eliminate. Even after it seems your lice are completely gone, continue to treat a while longer to ensure that the eggs are gone.

Purchase a specialized shampoo for dealing with lice. These are generally available over the counter, but can be prescribed by a doctor, as well.

    • 3

Follow the instructions on the shampoo to apply the treatment. Be very specific in following the exact instructions on the bottle.

    • 4

Change the affected person into clean clothes immediately following the lice treatment to ensure that any insects that may have been on the clothing have been removed.

    • 5

Comb the hair with the nit or flea comb and check scalp for lice or eggs periodically for the next two weeks or so.

    • 6

Clean all of the affected belongings. This includes combs, hair brushes, hair accessories, bedding, and carpets.
