Pediatric Dust & Pollen Masks

Children who are highly allergic to pollen and dust or who have compromised immune systems wear dust masks. A mask offers a physical barrier from allergens and filter microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, pollen and benzene.
  1. Fit

    • The effectiveness of a dust mask is determined by how well it fits. If not snug enough, it won't deter what it's supposed to. The mask should also allow the wearer to breath easily, have comfortable ear loops and elastic trimming and be constructed of precision micropore openings and a synthetic micro mono-filament material that does not support bacteria growth. Many pediatric masks feature an adjustable nose bar.

    Significance

    • A pediatric dust mask is worn by patients who have respiratory symptoms that haven't been diagnosed. Ideally, the dust mask will provide a 99 percent filtration efficiency.

    Fun Fact

    • Kimberly-Clark designed pediatric masks featuring Disney characters to make the experience of wearing a mask a little less scary.
