An option that some medical professionals use when treating head lice is Ivermectin. Ivermectin is a drug that is commonly used to treat parasites in animals and also can be used in humans as well, as long as certain precautions are taken. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved use of Ivermectin for this purpose, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.
