Louisiana Medicaid for Children

Medicaid helps families who do not have health insurance and who cannot pay for necessary medical expenses for their children. Medicaid also helps pregnant women receive proper prenatal care.

• The Louisiana Medicaid programs provide medical coverage for children who receive Supplemental Security Income or for children whose families have limited income.

Applications

• Medicaid applications may be submitted by mail, online, or in person at the local Medicaid office. Applicants may need to provide proof of identity, residency and citizenship. Also, copies of Social Security cards, a marriage license and income documentation will probably be required as well.

Time Frame

• The Medicaid office should notify families of eligibility within 45 days. Medicaid officials review cases once per year.
