-
Function
-
Amoxicillin treats gingivitis in children by getting rid of the infection in the gums.
Time frame
-
Children will take amoxicillin for several days, as prescribed by the dentist or doctor. The time it is taken will vary with each child.
Forms
-
There are three forms of amoxicillin available for children to take. These forms are liquids, chewable tablets and extended-release tablets.
Side effects
-
Side effects of taking amoxicillin to treat gingivitis in children may include breathing problems, swelling, nausea, diarrhea, seizures, weakness, unusual behavior and changes in the frequency of urination.
Considerations
-
In order to be effective in treating gingivitis, amoxicillin should be taken the entire time that it is prescribed for--even if the symptoms dissipate. If amoxicillin is discontinued early, gingivitis may still be present and symptoms may reoccur.
