Oxybutynin in Children
Bed wetting occurs when a child accidentally wets his bed at night when he is sleeping. For some children who frequently wet the bed, a doctor will prescribe the medication oxybutynin to help control this embarrassing problem.-
Function

Oxybutynin decreases bladder tightening, irritation of bladder muscles, urine leakage and pain when urinating. It will lessen the urge to urinate and the occurrence of bed wetting in children.

Oxybutynin comes in pills and syrups.
Time Frame

The amount of time oxybutynin is taken will vary for each child. However, most children will take it two to three times daily for extended periods of time.
Side Effects

Side effects of oxybutynin include flushing of the face, dry mouth, constipation, changes in mood, blurred vision and a dry mouth.
Considerations

It has not been determined yet if oxybutynin is safe in treating bed wetting in children under six years old. Therefore, it is only recommended for children ages six and up.
