What Are the Causes of an Itchy Nose in a Child?

An itchy nose causes discomfort. Parents want to take away any discomfort their children might have and treat them accordingly. There are many causes of a childhood itchy nose.
  1. Impetigo

    • Impetigo appears as an itchy rash typically first visible with small red bumps around the nose. Later these blister and ooze.

    Allergic rhinitis

    • Children with chronic itchy or runny noses may have allergic rhinitis, more commonly called hay fever. Other symptoms include watery eyes and sneezing, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.

    Seborrheic Dermatitis

    • More common in infants, seborrheic dermatitis, makes the scalp and entire face, including the nose, itch. Red pimply bumps accompany cradle cap--a crusted scalp rash--during this condition, according to Merck.com.

    Common Cold

    • Young children not understanding symptoms of a cold, often touch their stuffy and runny noses. This could appear as though the child's nose is itching.

    Fifth Disease

    • A very common disease, called fifth disease, appears more often in children than adults. It begins as a red rash on the face, sometimes causing itching, according to KidsHealth.org.
