Cephasil Lice Treatment

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is part of a home remedy for killing lice. The use of the cleanser as a lice treatment is not sanctioned by the manufacturer, but a clinical test did show that it can be successful.
  1. Application

    • Cetaphil is applied to dry hair, soaking the hair and the scalp with the cleanser. The originator of this treatment suggests putting the cleanser into a squeezable condiment container to allow it to be applied precisely.

    Combing

    • The cleanser is then combed out of the hair with a wide-tooth comb. The hair should be combed until no more of the cleanser can be taken out of the hair.

    Sealant

    • To seal the Cetaphil to the scalp, use a hair dryer to blow dry the hair and scalp until it feels dry. This is supposed to seal the cleanser to the bodies of the lice in order to slowly kill them.

    Time Frame

    • Leave the dried-on cleanser in place for eight hours. This is the length of time needed to kill all of the lice. It can be left on overnight or the hair can be combed and styled. Hair products like hair spray can't be used during this time.

    Removal

    • The Cetaphil cleanser is washed out of the hair with regular shampoo at the end of eight hours. There are no special solvents needed to get it out of the hair.
