Sinus Cold in Children

Sinus colds are minor infections that affect the sinuses as well as the nose and throat. These colds generally resolve themselves in a couple days but can leave a child feeling miserable.
  1. Effects

    • Children who have a sinus cold may experience a runny nose, fever, cough and sore throat.

    Causes

    • A sinus cold is caused by the cold virus. When a child has the virus it is spread by coughing and sneezing.

    Treatments

    • Treatments for sinus colds in children are steam baths, nasal sprays and vapor rubs. There are over-the-counter medications available as well, but they are not recommended for children under 4 years old and they should only be given if the symptoms are interfering with the child's daily routines

    Complications

    • Complications of sinus colds in children include infections of the ear and sinus, bronchitis and pneumonia.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Sinus colds can be prevented in children by having them wash their hands frequently, washing toys that other kids have played with and keeping them away from other people and children who are sick.
