Kids First Aid Kit Instructions
Children are prone to accidents, therefore it is best to be prepared to treat them in any situation. Taking a few minutes to create a simple kid-friendly first-aid kit is a great idea to ensure that every parent is prepared to deal with the accidents that are sure to arise.-
Container
-
Find a container. The container should be made of durable plastic and able to be carried. A lunch box type container, craft box with storage compartments, or plastic tackle box are ideal.
Contents
-
Fully stock the container with the following items:
Fill a plastic sandwich bag with different sizes of adhesive bandages and place them in the container. It is important to have different sizes for the different types of cuts and scrapes that may arise. Adhesive bandages with smiley faces or cartoon characters on them can help make an injured child smile.
Fill another plastic sandwich bag with a roll of gauze or gauze pads (different sizes) and first-aid tape. These are used for larger wounds and to stop bleeding.
Also include antibiotic spray or ointment, alcohol pads to help clean wounds, at least two pairs of plastic gloves (always worn when dealing with blood), a pair of tweezers for removing splinters, a pair of small, sharp scissors, a tube of first-aid cream to help with burns, rashes, and other itches, child-friendly acetaminophen, like Children's Tylenol, or ibuprofen to help reduce fevers and relieve other pains.
Emergency Numbers
-
Create a list of emergency contacts and important medical information (blood types, allergies) and glue it on the inside of the lid of the container. In an emergency, you might not remember all of this information or be available to give it.
Always Refill
-
As you use items from the first-aid kit, be sure to replace them so that you are always prepared for any emergency.
