Child Foot Pain

According to ePodiatry, foot pain in children is not as common as foot pain in adults because of the resilience and flexibility of a child's foot. Foot pain in children may just be from the body growing or can indicate something more serious.
  1. Types

    • There are many types of foot pain in children. This pain includes pain in the heels, soles and arches.

    Effects

    • A child who has foot pain will have trouble walking. They will limp or may not be able to put pressure on their foot.

    Causes

    • Foot pain in children is caused by injuries such as stepping on an object, Sever's disease, a pronated foot, a foot that rolls inward when walking or running, or by growing pains.

    Identification

    • To identify the cause of the foot pain a doctor known as a podiatrist, will examine the child's foot. If the doctor can not find the reason behind the pain through the examination, he will obtain an x-ray of the foot.

    Treatments

    • Depending on the cause of the foot pain, the child may have to wear foot orthotics or have surgery.
