1
Take your child's temperature. An ear thermometer works well for toddlers or younger children who might not sit still for the minute necessary for an oral thermometer to give a reading. If her temperature is 105 degrees, get medical attention immediately.
-
2
For a lower-grade fever give your child an over-the-counter fever reducer and pain reliever, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If the child is under 2 years old, consult your pediatrician.
-
3
Give him plenty of fluids such as water, soup or popsicles to keep him hydrated. The fever will cause him to lose fluids rapidly.
-
4
Don't bundle her up. You want to keep her warm, but allow her body to breathe and let off heat. Lightweight clothing and a light blanket is sufficient.
-
5
Bathe him in warm water, which will have a soothing effect and may even help bring the fever down.

6
Make sure she gets plenty of rest. She should stay home from school or day care until her temperature has been back to normal for 24 hours.
