Natural Bed Wetting Cure

Bed wetting can be embarrassing and cause self-esteem issues in older children. Children who are dealing with this problem struggle with social events such as sleepovers out of fear of being found out by friends. Helping your child deal with bed wetting involves a gentle, loving approach.
  1. Causes

    • One of the biggest mistakes that parents can make is to offer rewards and incentives if the child stays dry and punishment or embarrassment if they have an accident. Bed-wetting is an uncontrolled and involuntary urination during sleep--the child is not able to predict it or stop it. Understanding what causes bed-wetting can make it a less frustrating problem and make it easier to work with your child in a caring manner to find a cure.

Some of the causes can include stress, too small bladder, irregular sleep patterns and health problems such as diabetes, urinary tract infections, constipation and epilepsy.

Take your child to a doctor if this continues past six years of age or if the condition is very persistent.

    Natural Cures

    • Some natural ways to treat bed-wetting include the use of herbs, such as corn silk, oak bark, buchu, parsley or plantain. Make an infusion by steeping a handful of dried herbs in boiled water for three to five minutes. Strain it, then drink it as a tea. Have the tea no later than 3 p.m. to allow time to work before bedtime.

You could also try 1,500 milligrams of magnesium and 350 milligrams of calcium daily to help control bladder spasms. You can also try massaging the child's inner thigh with St. John's Wort oil to help with stress, and teach the child how to do kegel exercises to tone the pelvic floor.

Also have the child avoid liquids a few hours before bed and encourage him to urinate before getting into bed for the night.

    What to Avoid

    • Have the child avoid foods that may be irritating to the bladder such as sugary snacks and sodas, junk foods, processed foods, caffeine and artificial colors and preservatives.

Also talk with your child about any stress he may be experiencing whether at home or in school and try to eliminate that.
