Ways for Kids to Exercise
Kids spend several hours a day sitting down. They're in desks at school, on the bus, in the car or on the couch. Get your kids up and moving with these ideas for easy and fun ways to incorporate exercise into their day.-

Kids have fun when they're around other kids, so use this to your advantage. Sign your kids up for a team sport or fitness class. Summer is a popular time for little league and other community fitness activities, but leagues often play year-round as well. Try your local YMCA or community center---they will have classes for kids of all ages. If you don't have a facility like that in your area, look for private classes. Your little one might become a karate or ballet star in addition to staying fit.
Around Town
-
During summer and other school breaks, keep cabin fever at bay by exploring your neighborhood. Use your town's resources to your advantage and let your kids have fun in a new setting. Check out your local park, or even the playground at a nearby elementary school. On bad-weather days, take your kids to an indoor play gym or the playground at your local mall.
Stay-at-Home Fun
-
Even if you want to stay close to home, kids can still get in on the action. Set up a kiddie pool in the back yard and let them cool off while they burn energy during warmer months. Or create relay races and contests---how about a hula-hoop competition, or a game of toss-the-Frisbee? During the winter, sledding or ice skating can be fun and energy-burning. Try taking a family walk or a bike ride in the evening when everyone's home together. Kids may also enjoy participating in home workout routines like yoga or aerobics. Mix it up for maximum fun.
