Symptoms of Kidney Reflux in Children

Kidney reflux is a condition also know as vesicoureteral reflux, and it occurs when urine backs up from the bladder into the kidneys. Normally, the ureters only allow urine to flow away from the kidneys, but sometimes children are born with a defect that allows urine to flow both ways. This condition can damage the kidneys over time. Often kidney reflux corrects itself by the time a child reaches the age of 5, but sometimes surgical interventions are needed.
  1. Urinary Tract Infections

    Urinary Incontinence

    • Children with kidney reflux may wet their pants often.

    Trickling Urine

    • Urine may trickle or dribble from the bladder often.

    Complications

    • Recurrent kidney infections can lead to permanent kidney damage and scarring.
