Causes of Frequent Urination in Children

It may be frustrating when your previously toilet-trained child starts having frequent urination and urinary accidents. Frequent urination in children can result in incontinence during the day or overnight, and may cause embarrassment and social withdrawal in your child. According to the Mayo Clinic and the National Center for Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, causes of frequent urination in children include lifestyle factors and bladder disorders.

    • Development of a child's ability to hold urine in may occur slowly and can result in frequent urination, especially at night while she is sleeping.

    • Children have smaller bladder capacity than adults do and are not able to hold as much urine for as long as an adult can.
