How to Make Your Own Lice Treatment
One of the problems that many parents run into during the school year is lice. Lice often find homes in your child's hair and require an intervention to get rid of them. However, many store-bought lice treatments have chemicals that could potentially harm your child. Luckily, you can make your own lice treatment at home that is safer to use than many store-bought options.Things You'll Need

1
Wash your child's hair. Start by washing your child's hair thoroughly with shampoo. This will get some of the lice out of your child's hair and rinse out some of the sebum that has coated the different hairs on his or her head. This will prepare the surface for the treatment.

2
Combine the ingredients. Using a dropper, combine 2 ½ oz. of vegetable oil, 10 drops of lemon oil, 25 drops of tea tree oil, 10 drops of lavender oil and 15 drops of rosemary oil.
-
3
Apply the mixture. Slowly pour the mixture onto the child's head. Be sure that the mixture is applied to every part of the head from the tips of the hairs to the scalp. It may help to massage the oils into the skin.
-
4
Cover the head with a towel and wait for at least an hour.
-
5
Rinse and repeat. Once an hour has passed, rinse the hair out well and shampoo again. Repeat the process for the next few days until the lice are no longer there.
-
6
Clean the house. Lice may find their way onto the infected child's belongings---especially toys, sheets and clothing. Set your washer's water temperature to "hot," and wash sheets and clothing that may be infected. Then dry using your dryer's highest heat level. For toys and other items that cannot be cleaned in a washer, place the items in a garbage bag and tie it tightly shut. Do not open the bag for at least three days. Lice cannot live very long without a host. If any are present, they will die in the bag.
