Watch for physical symptoms. They include nausea and vomiting, chronic fatigue, stomachaches, constipation or diarrhea, headache, muscle weakness and higher than normal rates of tooth decay. Exposed children may also be small for their age and experience a mental decline.

Observe your child for behavioral problems. Behavioral symptoms include irritability or aggressiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness, learning disabilities, loss of appetite and a lack of interest in play.

Look for neurological problems. These symptoms include poor coordination, weakness in the hands and feet, seizures, paralysis and coma. These symptoms require immediate medical attention.
