Motion Sickness Are Safe for Children?
Most OTC motion sickness medications are not approved by the FDA for children under 12. This means that the safety and effectiveness of these medications for children under 12 have not been established.
Drowsiness and dizziness are the most common side effects of OTC motion sickness medications. These side effects can increase the risk of falls in children.
If your child is under 12 and needs medication to prevent motion sickness, talk to their doctor. They may recommend a prescription medication that is safe and effective for children.
Here are some non-medication tips to help prevent motion sickness in children:
* Have your child eat a light snack before traveling.
* Give your child plenty of fluids to drink.
* Avoid giving your child sugary foods or drinks.
* Keep the car cool and well-ventilated.
* Let your child sit in the front seat of the car, if possible.
* Have your child focus on a stationary object while traveling.
* Encourage your child to take deep breaths.
