How to Make a Complaint With the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services

Many people who work with children are required by federal law to report suspected child abuse, but the state of Georgia encourages all citizens to be alert and inform authorities if they suspect a child is in danger or is being deprived of basic care or supervision. The Division of Child and Family Services monitors families who are suspected of abusing or neglecting a child. They will work with the family to create an improvement plan and, if necessary, will remove the child from the home for his or her own safety.

Instructions

Gather all information relevant to your complaint, making sure that you can clearly articulate what you suspect and why. If you've witnessed any incidents occurring between family members, write down dates and times.

Find your local Division of Child and Family Services office. In Georgia, each county has its own branch. You can locate the phone number for your local office on the Georgia human services website.

File your complaint with a caseworker. Include as much information about the family and child as you can, including a full description of any incidents witnessed. Your report will be kept confidential and can be made anonymously if you don't wish to give your name.
