How to Remove Your Deceased Father From a Mailing List

When a parent passes away, there are many tasks to do. Friends and family are notified of the death, funeral arrangements are made and wills and legal documents are taken care of. Among the necessary tasks is removing a deceased father's name from mailing lists. This is necessary to stop receiving mail or junk mail that is no longer needed or wanted.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a web browser and go to the Direct Marketing Association, or DMA, website.

    • 2

Fill out the "Deceased Do Not Contact Registration" application on the page. There is no fee for the service. DMA members are required to remove the deceased father from the mailing list. The service requires information about the deceased, including a name, address and email address. It will also ask for a name, relationship and email address of the person filling out the registration.

    • 3

Contact any company that has the deceased father on its mailing list. Inform the customer service representative of the death and ask for the father's name to be removed from the mailing list. Give any necessary information requested and ask for a confirmation number. The DMA registration will remove the name from many mailing lists, but contacting each company directly will ensure that the name is removed.
