How to Set a Grave Marker With a Vase

Grave markers, otherwise called headstones, show who is buried in the location and act as a memorial. Among the available options for a grave marker are those that come with a vase. The vase is designed for the flowers brought to the grave. It is placed as either part of the actual headstone or placed to the side of the grave marker, depending on personal preferences.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a grave marker that has the vase-attach in the marker. Usually, the vase-attach is bronze and is set into the stone material.

    • 2

Install the grave marker. For most, the actual installation is done by a professional. The site is dug and the marker is set so the vase-attach and a small portion of the stone material is above the ground. Exact methods of installation differ, though, typically installation requires digging to an appropriate depth, which is about 2 feet wider and 2 feet deeper than the marker. Concrete is then poured into the hole around the marker to hold it into place before covering with dirt after the concrete dries. For any marker that has part of the vase underground, a PVC sleeve or pipe is placed in the spot where the vase goes to act as a place holder until the concrete sets after two to three hours.

Select a vase. Once the marker is installed, the vase-attach is above the ground. Select a vase that fits the specific vase-attach. Usually, the company that sells the marker with vase-attach options will have a few vase choices. If engraved information is wanted on the vase, put the information on the vase when selecting it.

Place the vase onto the vase-attach, press gently and turn. This will cause the edges to catch and hold under the vase-attach. Place flowers into the vase.
