What is a contracting family?

In the United States, a contracting family is a type of family in which both spouses are employed. While contracting families have traditionally involved a husband and wife, they may include same-sex couples. Typically, both partners work full-time and earn relatively high salaries. Contracting families often have children, but can be childfree as well.
