What Is Ohio No-Cost Health Insurance?

Ohio no-cost health insurance is another way to describe Ohio Medicaid. Ohio has two main programs open to low-income individuals: Healthy Start and Healthy Families. There are also a few other options available.
  1. Types

    • Healthy Start is open to children under the age of 19 and pregnant women. Healthy Families is open to all members of a family that has at least one child under the age of 19.

    Income

    • To be eligible for the Healthy Start program, children and pregnant women must come from families that have a combined income of less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level. For Healthy Families, the family must have a combined income of less than 90 percent of the poverty level to qualify.

    Considerations

    • Medicaid coverage options are available for people over age 65, the disabled who have an income under 64 percent of the poverty level, and women who have been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer.

    Other Options

    • Those who need assistance but do not fall into one of the other Medicaid categories or do not meet the income requirements for those categories, options include a Medicare premium assistance program, a disability medical program, a refugee medical program and an alien emergency medical program.

    Basic Requirements

    • For all programs, applicant must be a U.S. citizen (except for the alien emergency medical program) reside in Ohio and have or be eligible for a Social Security number.
