Signs of Infertility in Women

The inability to produce a child can be frustrating for women, especially when they exhibit several signs of infertility. A woman who is trying to get pregnant, but has been unsuccessful, should carefully monitor her health. If she is suffering from any of these signs, she should consult her OB/GYN for additional fertility options.
  1. Irregular Period or None At All

    • A consistent menstrual cycle is the key to becoming pregnant. Inconsistencies can be caused by additional problems, such as ovary failure or a hormonal imbalance.

    Miscarriages

    • Consistent loss of pregnancy is another sign of infertility. However, genetic or health problems can be the cause. The OB/GYN should test a woman's reproductive system entirely to ensure she is even able to get pregnant.

    Endometriosis

    • Endometriosis occurs when the uterine lining is outside of the uterus. This causes increased menstrual cramps and increased chance of miscarriage.

    Weight

    • If a woman is too thin or too heavy, infertility may occur. A underweight woman may be lacking proper nutrients, while a overweight woman may suffer from hormonal problems affecting her ability to conceive.

    Substance or Alcohol Abuse

    • These substances can harm the body and its ability to work properly. Alcohol also deters the proper growth of a fetus, thus making it harder for a pregnancy to continue, most often resulting in miscarriage.
