Is there a Planned Parenthood in Mississippi?
There are no Planned Parenthood clinics currently operating in the state of Mississippi. In 2022, the state's only Planned Parenthood clinic was forced to close its doors after a new state law went into effect that required abortion clinics to meet the same standards as hospitals. The clinic was unable to meet the requirements and was forced to shut down.
Abortion access is severely limited in Mississippi. In 2018, the state passed a law that banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest. The law was challenged in court, but the Supreme Court upheld it in June 2022. As a result of this law, Mississippi has one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country.
Access to reproductive healthcare is a critical human right. The fact that there are no Planned Parenthood clinics in Mississippi is a significant blow to the reproductive rights of people in the state. This is especially true for low-income and marginalized people who may not have the resources to travel to another state for abortion care.
