First Aid & Safety Products
Accidents happen. First aid and safety products are items and tools that can be used to prevent accidents and to ensure that emergency situations are handled effectively and quickly. Many first aid and safety products can be contained and transported in a first aid kit for quick and easy access in case of an accident or emergency. On some excursions, such as camping trips and sporting events, first aid kits should be close at hand at all times.-
General First Aid and Safety Products
-
Disinfectant products can treat abrasions and lacerations and prevent infections. Products such as antibacterial hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol can prevent bacteria and infection from spreading to injured areas. Also, antibiotic ointment and bandages seal off injured or exposed areas of the skin and keep them clean during the healing process. Saline solutions, tooth saver containers, cold packs and gloves can ease pain and discomfort and make it easier for doctors to rectify serious emergency situations.
First Aid and Safety Medicine
-
Aloe vera gel or cream can help to ease many types of burns, including sunburns. Antihistamines and aspirins can reduce allergy symptoms and decrease pain. Hydrocortisone and calamine lotions can be used to reduce skin irritation and inflammation caused by many outdoor allergens and irritants. Medication that reverses or stops diarrhea may also be useful and can be included in a first aid kit.
First Aid and Safety Emergency Products
-
In case of extreme emergencies, a record of the medical history of every member of a family, team or group should be kept in the first aid kit. Also, products such as waterproof flashlights, matches and candles can provide light and heat in colder climates or if there are no other sources of light. Medical blankets and fire blankets can prevent fires from spreading or can fight against extreme cold. Also, extra batteries can lengthen the life of electronic devices and flashlights.
First Aid and Safety Contact Information
-
In case of an emergency, contact numbers of local authorities should be stored in first aid kits. Numbers and addresses to nearby hospitals and urgent care centers can be helpful during an emergency. Also, the contact information for poison control, the local fire department and local park rangers (if applicable) may be beneficial. Family doctor information and emergency family contact information also are good things to include in first aid kits.
