How to Troubleshoot a Masimo Rad-8

The Masimo Rad-8 is a pulse oximeter that monitors heart rate and the oxygen saturation in your blood. It can be used on neonate, infant, pediatric and adult patients in a hospital or at home. The device must be working properly to get accurate readings. You can troubleshoot some of the most common problems if the Rad-8 is malfunctioning.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the back of the Rad-8 and to an AC wall outlet. Press the power button on the front of the device to see if the power indicator light below the button is lit.

    • 2

Check that the patient cable cord is securely plugged into the slot on the front of the Rad-8. The data from the sensor cannot be recorded if the cable cord is improperly plugged in.

    • 3

Clean the sensor, which can record inaccurate readings if dirty. Wipe the sensor with a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol pad and let it dry for a few minutes before using it.

    • 4

Reconnect the sensor to the patient as it may have been attached improperly or have fallen off. Insert one of the patient's fingers into the sensor. You may use any finger, but the index finger typically works best.

    • 5

Set the sensor to MAX sensitivity if the device is not receiving any data. Press the "Enter" button on the front of the device six times to get to the sensitivity settings. Press the button with the up arrow twice to select MAX sensitivity and then press the "Enter" button to save the setting.

    • 6

Replace the sensor by pulling it off of the patient cable cord. Insert the cord into the end of a new Rad-8 sensor.
