Clean your ears. If you have not cleaned your ears in a while, encrusted earwax buildup can affect your hearing. Place three drops of mineral oil or baby oil in each ear to help soften and eliminate earwax. Use a moist cloth to clean the shell of your ear. Avoid using a cotton swab to clean inside your ears because this can push the wax deeper into your ear. Allow the ear to expel the wax naturally.

Exercise your hearing. Listen to music or instruments playing at a volume where you can still have a normal conversation with someone. Listening and focusing on music helps sharpen your sense of hearing.

Sit in a quiet room, in the back yard or in the park and extend your hearing radius to improve your hearing. Close your eyes and identify the different sounds around you within a 3-foot radius. This can be anything from the sound of a nearby stream, to the sound of the clock on the wall. Extend your hearing radius to 10 feet and try to identify the sounds you hear. This can be the sound of traffic, mechanical noises or children playing. Extend your hearing radius even more to discover more sounds.
