How to Tape the Arm & Hand for Supination
Supination occurs when the forearm is brought toward the upper arm with the palm facing in (facing up). Taping the arm and hand in this position is often done when injuries are sustained to the arm and hands. The limited movement allows the arm/hand to heal faster and avoids re-injury. It also prevents blood from collecting in the arm. Depending on the nature of the injury, a cast may be required.Things You'll Need
- 2 ACE or elastic bandages
Instructions
-
-
1
Bend the arm in to a 35- to 40-degree angle.
-
2
Bend the hand up slightly.
-
3
Wrap an ACE bandage around the forearm and upper arm, or shoulder area. Wrap from the elbow to the hand. Wrap in such a way the back of both the forearm and upper arm touch the bandage, but the inside does not. The upper arm will hold the forearm in place. This secures the arm and hand in the supination position.

4
Wrap another ACE bandage like a strap from the opposite shoulder to the forearm. Wrap around the body, so the arm is held tightly against the chest. The wrap should resemble a sling.
