Measure the distance between the floor and all the seats from which the TV will be watched. Add the measurements together and divide this number by the number of seats. This will provide an average seat height.

Ask each member of the household to sit on a hard seat. Measure the distance between the top of the seat and their eyes. It’s best if they don’t sit up perfectly straight as most people fail to adopt this posture when watching TV. Add these figures together and divide the result by the number of people measured.

Add the figures from step 1 and 2 and divide by two. This provides the average viewing height for the household.

Measure the height of the TV from the bottom edge to the center of the screen.

Subtract the measurement from step 4 from the total you arrived at in step 3. The result is the ideal height for the TV console.
