How to Keep Your Nose From Getting Dry When You Have a Runny Nose
A runny nose occurs when excess fluid or mucus is produced and goes out of your nose. This can have many causes, such as the common cold, allergies, influenza and irritants like pollen, dust, dander or tobacco smoke. Dry skin around the nose often occurs as a side effect of blowing and wiping. Though this condition is uncomfortable, it typically goes away on its own. Knowing how to properly care for your skin helps prevent dry and flaky skin on and around your nose.Things You'll Need

1
Keep your skin hydrated by drinking at least eight glasses of water each day. Drinking sufficient amount of water helps get rid of your runny nose and also hydrates your skin. Reduce your intake of caffeine, alcohol and salt because these substances cause mucous membranes to dry out.
-
2
Avoid rubbing or scratching your nose. This causes skin irritation and more dryness. Stay away from irritants like pet dander, pollen, dust and smoke. Wear a nasal mask to promote healing and to prevent dryness.
-
3
Apply a gentle moisturizer to the outer skin of your nose to reduce redness and to stop the skin from flaking.
-
4
Use soft tissue instead of rough paper towels and napkins to wipe or blow your runny nose. Always carry a small box in your purse or vehicle when leaving the house.
