How to Make an Instant Ice Pack
One of the most common uses for ice packs is to treat injuries. The application of ice to skin helps reduce pain, swelling, bleeding and muscle spasms. Ice packs can be purchased in drugstores or supermarkets and come in innumerable shapes and sizes. However, store bought ice packs can be expensive. Luckily, you can make your own reusable ice packs using a few items you may already have in your home.Things You'll Need

1
Mix one cup of tap or drinking water and ¼ cup rubbing alcohol into a clean dry bowl. The rubbing alcohol will prevent the ice pack from turning into a solid block.
-
2
Hold the resealable plastic freezer bag with one hand making sure it is open wide. Pour the liquid mixture carefully into the bag. Push out any air in the bag and seal it tightly.
-
3
Place your homemade ice pack in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours.
-
4
Remove the ice pack from the freezer and cover it with a dry towel or cloth. Apply the ice pack to your skin for about 10 minutes to a couple hours at a time or according to your physician's instructions. Never apply the ice pack directly to your skin as this may result in ice burns to your skin.
-
5
Rinse your homemade ice pack under running water after using it. Wipe it dry with a clean cloth and store it in the freezer for future use.
