Optometric Extension Program Tutorial

The Optometric Extension Program is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of the field of optometry. The primary goal of the organization is educating the public on vision and the visual process.

    • The goals of the Optometric Extension Program include educating the public on the importance of visual health and hygiene, the prevention of vision and ocular problems, vision development and rehabilitation and the enhancement of the visual process. Additional goals include encouraging vision research, providing education that promotes optometry, developing optometric leaders and supporting optometric research.

    Publication

    • The "Journal of Behavioral Optometry" is published by the organization on an annual basis.

    Continuing Education

    • Continuing education programs for optometrists are offered throughout the year in many locations in the United States. These courses are geared toward optometrists who wish to advance their vision therapy expertise. Vision therapy is a facet of optometry that provides a nonsurgical approach to straightening and strengthening the eyes, enhancing tracking skills and improving accommodation.
