Safety of Prescription Glasses

Prescription glasses have helped people the world over live better lives. When used incorrectly, however, prescription glasses can have adverse effects, especially if the prescription is not right for the person wearing them.
  1. Symptoms

    • It can be difficult to tell if your prescription is not right for you, especially if you have no frame of reference. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness and fatigue, as well as the inability to make out objects or words either near or far.

    Effects

    • There has never been any substantial evidence leading to the fact that an incorrect prescription can actually damage vision. That said, wearing the wrong prescription for a long period of time can cause symptoms such as headaches and dizziness to worsen until the lenses are changed.

    Prevention/Solution

    • If prescription glasses are causing you to experience headaches or other unwanted symptoms, contact your eye doctor immediately. The sooner you end up with a new, accurate prescription, the less of a chance you will suffer any negative side effects from your eye wear.
