1
Slip the belt from the lift around the patient's abdominal area under the arms. This belt is not connected to the lift at this time and can be put in place before moving the lift near the person being lifted. Buckle the belt firmly in place with the straps that attach to the lift facing the front of the person.
-
2
Roll the Hoyer stand-up lift into position in front of a person who needs to be lifted to a standing position from a sitting position. Carefully raise the person's feet and place them onto the foot board at the base of the lift. The patient's shins should be against the pads near the bottom of the front of the lift.

Wrap the leg bands around the lower legs and buckle them in place. Lower the handlebars at the top of the lift until the straps on the belt can be attached to them. Have the person hold onto the grips on the handlebars for balance as he or she is being lifted. Press the button located on the back of the Hoyer stand-up lift to engage the motor to raise the handlebars. This will slowly lift the person from a sitting to a standing position.

4
Grip the Hoyer stand-up lift firmly and roll it with the patient to the desired location. To place the person on a chair, commode, or bed, reverse the process used for the lift. Press the button to lower the handlebars until the patient is sitting solidly in place. Detach the handlebars from the belt and remove the leg straps. Lift the person's feet from the foot board and roll the lift out of the way. Remove the belt from the patient's abdomen, and the lifting process is complete.
